Indian Runner Ducks

Ducklings Ducks in a row

Indian Runner ducks, or "Penguin Ducks," are a breed of domesticated duck that cannot fly. They live roughly 8-12 years on average. Birds of this breed can come in many colors. Common colors are chocolate, black, white, blue, light brown, dark brown, and a brownish shade of green. This breed of ducks is from the Indonesian islands and are native to South East Asia. They are considered a durable and disease-resistant breed of duck. Fluxuations in temperature do not seem to impact them much. Hens rarely go broody and do not typically make nests to lay in. Eggs must be put in a brooder and hens rarely develop any maternal insticts. Indian Runner ducks like to have a large space to roam and can be quite vocal.

Indian Runner ducks are considered a "light class" domesticated duck breed. They are small for traditional meat birds but they have a high flesh to bone ratio and the meat is often deemed to be of a quality flavor. There is usually little fat on an Indian Runner duck.

Indian Runner ducks can lay between 300-350 eggs annually, on average. These eggs can be different shades of white and blue. The eggs laid by this breed are jumbo sized and weigh roughly between 2.8 and 3 ounces on average. Hens lay consistently for about 4-5 years before quantity starts to diminish.
